Everett Housing Authority Wanting to Develop Park District Development
The Everett Housing Authority (EHA) aims to develop a 16-acre Park District, proposing approximately 1,500 housing units and 70,000 square feet of commercial space near public transit. The Delta Neighborhood Association opposes the project, raising concerns about the height of proposed buildings, which would surpass existing structures in Metro Everett. They highlight the absence of community services, such as a library, despite offers of 5,000 square feet of space at no rental cost. Traffic concerns are significant, with estimates of an extra 7,550 vehicle trips daily, exacerbating existing congestion on Broadway and E Marine View Drive. A public hearing is scheduled for February 20, 2024, at William E.
Moore Historic City Hall, where community feedback will be solicited. Following the hearing, the Planning Commission will make recommendations to the City Council, expected to hold additional hearings in March. The lack of commitment to preserve nearby Wiggums Hollow Park adds to community apprehensions. The EHA must address these concerns to gain support for the development.
