Everett Firefighters Extinguish Boathouse Fire at Port of Everett Marina Central Docks

Everett, WALocal News

The Everett Fire Department responded to a boathouse fire at the Port of Everett Marina Central Docks around 2:45 a. m. on January 14. Firefighters faced subfreezing temperatures while working to extinguish the blaze, which originated from a compressor of a deep freezer not rated for outdoor use. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries; however, heavy damage occurred to two boathouses, with at least one declared a total loss.

Additionally, the vessels stored inside the boathouses were also heavily damaged, resulting in total losses. The Marysville Fire District and Tulalip Bay Fire provided mutual aid during the incident. Firefighters took approximately 70 minutes to extinguish the fire, which prompted the evacuation of neighboring boats by the Everett Police Department. This fire follows another incident at the Everett Marina in 2017, raising concerns about safety measures for docked vessels. Investigations into fire safety regulations for outdoor appliances may be warranted as a result of this fire.
