Lyon Creek fish barrier removal project along SR 104 begins June 30 in Lake Forest Park
Construction will commence on June 30 for a fish barrier removal project along Lyon Creek beneath State Route 104 in Lake Forest Park. The project will replace an existing culvert with a new 24-foot-wide concrete structure, enhancing fish passage for species such as Chinook and coho salmon. This development will open 7. 5 miles of upstream habitat vital for local fish populations. Crews will work up to seven days a week, implementing traffic control measures primarily between 9 p.
m. and 5 a. m. , resulting in several road closures, including a 35-day closure of SR 104 tentatively starting in early September. Signed detours will assist vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians around the closures, while local access will remain.
King County Metro will relocate bus stops along the affected routes during construction. The $8. 71 million project, led by Johansen Construction Co. , aims to meet a U. S.
District Court ruling mandating the removal of barriers hindering fish passage beneath state highways. Completion is anticipated by fall, contingent on weather conditions.
