Edmonds School District projects 2.6M general fund balance for 2025-26 budget

Edmonds, WALocal News

The Edmonds School District expects a $2. 6 million general fund balance for the 2025-26 school year, marking a significant turnaround after years of budget cuts due to deficits. The school board will hold its first reading of the budget estimates on June 24, with a vote on adoption scheduled for July 8. This financial recovery arises from legislative actions allowing the district to collect a voter-approved levy amount in 2026, according to Executive Finance Director Lydia Sellie. She highlighted that while ESSER funds contributed to earlier increases, recent gains are primarily due to tough financial decisions.

The board will also recognize Hazlewood, Seaview, and Terrace Park Elementary schools for their success in addressing opportunity gaps and enhancing academic achievement. Following the celebration, a public hearing on the proposed budget will take place, alongside votes on additional projects like the Madrona Bioretention Replacement Project. The meeting, set for 6:30 p. m. at the Educational Services Center in Lynnwood, will be livestreamed on the district's website.

The full agenda is available online for public review.
