Driver of car involved in fatal accident at Edmonds ferry dock facing murder, vehicular assault charges

Edmonds, WALocal News

William Russell-Leonard, 29, faces multiple charges, including second-degree murder, after his 2012 Mini Cooper crashed into Puget Sound at the Edmonds ferry dock, leading to two fatalities. He is currently held in the Snohomish County Jail on a $2 million bond. The incident began with Russell-Leonard allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, who had been granted a weekend pass from a treatment facility, and stealing her car. The police pursued him after he was observed speeding on Interstate 5, reaching speeds over 100 mph before crashing through the ferry terminal gates. Two passengers died at the scene, while Russell-Leonard and two others survived and were treated at Harborview Medical Center.

Interviews revealed that all three survivors had been under the influence of heroin and meth. The detective's report noted that Russell-Leonard's behavior indicated drug impairment during the chase. The case is under review by the Snohomish County Prosecutor for formal charges.
