James Huffman, a graduate of the Edmonds College Culinary Arts Program, has been appointed executive chef at Canlis, one of Seattle's most prestigious restaurants. He takes over after a series of acclaimed chefs, including Brady Ishiwata Williams and Aisha Ibrahim, who both had notable accolades in the culinary world. Huffman, who grew up in Lake Forest Park, began his culinary journey at Kidd Valley and later worked at Café Juanita, gaining valuable experience in the local restaurant industry. He has spent the past nine years at Canlis, rising through the ranks under the mentorship of previous chefs. In an interview, Huffman highlighted the importance of hands-on training and praised the Edmonds College program for its role in his development.

"You’ll get out of it what you put into it," he advised aspiring chefs. His promotion is significant for the local culinary scene, as he is the first Seattle native to hold this executive role. Huffman's leadership is expected to shape the future of Canlis and inspire the next generation of chefs.
