Veteran Snohomish County bus driver wins first-place title for second time in International Bus Roadeo event

Matt Chomjak, a veteran Community Transit bus driver, secured first place at the 2025 International Bus Roadeo, showcasing his exceptional driving skills for the second time. The event, organized by the American Public Transportation Association, tests drivers through an obstacle course to highlight their precision and professionalism. Chomjak began his driving career in 2001 and quickly excelled, winning his first roadeo after just one year. Although he took on a training instructor role, his passion for driving led him back to competition. Mental preparation played a crucial role in his success this year, as he visualized the course to overcome a challenging practice run.

Community Transit CEO Ric Ilgenfritz expressed pride in Chomjak’s achievements, emphasizing his impact on the community. Chomjak's journey from a novice driver to a champion illustrates the dedication and skill required in public transit.
