Larsen swings through Edmonds to visit new food bank location and attend Congressional Ferry Caucus kickoff

Edmonds, WALocal News

U. S. Rep. Rick Larsen visited Edmonds on Wednesday, stopping at the Edmonds Food Bank and the Edmonds-Kingston ferry terminal. At the food bank, he met with officials who discussed plans to relocate to Edmonds Lutheran Church, nearly doubling its capacity and service hours.

The new facility will feature a commercial kitchen, enhancing programs like Annie’s Kitchen and allowing for extended hours to accommodate working customers. Larsen emphasized the urgency of food insecurity, citing proposed federal budget cuts that could affect 14,000 residents in Northwest Washington. At the ferry terminal, he helped launch the Congressional Ferry Caucus, which aims to unite support for ferry system investments. The caucus will tackle issues such as deferred maintenance and workforce development, while promoting the environmental benefits of ferry transportation. Larsen reiterated the need for bipartisan support in securing funding for surface transportation, which includes ferry systems.

This initiative reflects a broader commitment to improving transportation accessibility and reducing climate impact in the region.
