Sponsored Nonprofit Showcase Community Health Center of Snohomish County helps boost teens dental health with no-cost exams

Edmonds, WALocal News

The Community Health Center of Snohomish County (CHC) delivers no-cost dental services to students in the Edmonds School District, particularly benefiting those lacking health insurance. In the last school year, CHC's Smile Check and Sealant Programs reached 2,346 students, underscoring the critical link between oral health and academic performance. CHC runs school-based health centers at Meadowdale and Mountlake Terrace high schools, offering a private and safe environment for students to receive care. Dr. Katherine Nguyen highlighted that 21% of students screened needed urgent dental attention, validating the importance of these programs.

Additionally, CHC provides education on proper oral hygiene and nutrition to foster preventive care. The Dental Sealant Program, which sealed over 1,800 molars last year, further protects children's dental health. The collaboration between CHC, educators, and school staff plays a vital role in bridging gaps in care for families facing financial barriers. This initiative not only addresses immediate dental needs but also promotes long-term health benefits for students.
