Two dead, four injured after car involved in vehicle pursuit drives off Edmonds ferry dock

Edmonds, WALocal News

Two people died and four were injured when a Mini Cooper, pursued by the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, drove off the Edmonds-Kingston ferry dock late Tuesday night. The vehicle was initially spotted in the 12100 block of southbound Interstate 5, driving recklessly at speeds over 100 mph. After the deputy initiated a pursuit, the driver sped up to approximately 120 mph, eventually crashing through the ferry terminal barriers. Upon arriving at the scene, the deputy found the crossing arms destroyed and heard cries for help from the water. Three occupants were rescued and transported to Harborview Medical Center for treatment, while the dive team recovered two deceased passengers.

The Washington State Patrol is investigating the incident and reported that the vehicle ended up upside down in Puget Sound. This tragic event has raised concerns about high-speed pursuits and public safety. Edmonds-Kingston ferry service was briefly suspended but resumed early Wednesday morning.
