The Edmonds-Woodway Class of 2025 heads into the sunset
The Edmonds-Woodway High School Class of 2025 held its graduation ceremony on June 14 at Edmonds School Stadium, marking a significant transition for the graduates. The event celebrated the contributions of mentors and family, with student speaker Abel Mekonen emphasizing the importance of legacy and impact rather than just academic success. Mekonen also spoke about his involvement in the Black Student Union and organizing the first Afro-fusion Night, which attracted over 500 attendees. Faculty speaker Michael Simon encouraged graduates to pursue their passions, stating, "In life, there is nothing worse than getting stuck doing something because you have to. " Associate Student Body President Mio Masunaga reflected on her own transition, discussing the discomfort of uncertainty and the loss of familiarity.
She articulated her journey of self-discovery beyond her identity as an athlete. The ceremony highlighted the values of resilience, community, and determination that shaped the graduates.
