Like father, like son 10-year-old making his mark in shot put

Edmonds, WALocal News

Vincent Monica, at just 10 years old, has quickly made a name for himself in the shot put, ranking 11th nationally in his age group. His father, Tony Monica, a former Metro League champion, began coaching him last year when Vincent was deemed ready for the sport. Vincent recently achieved a personal best throw of 33-10 and aims to reach 35-6 at the upcoming AAU West Coast National Championships. His journey has been fueled by a desire to follow in his father's footsteps, with Tony noting his son's dedication and hard work. The Monica family supports Vincent's training by establishing a home gym and regularly competing at local meets.

Vincent's current weight and height of 122 pounds and 5 feet, respectively, contribute to his shot put success, as he handles a 6-pound shot put designed for his age group. After the West Coast Nationals, Vincent will also compete at the AAU Junior Olympics in Houston later this summer. The family's commitment to his athletic development highlights the importance of legacy and mentorship in sports.
