Sound Transit to begin 4-minute headway testing June 13 on 1 Line

Edmonds, WALocal News

Sound Transit will initiate testing of four-minute headways on June 13, advancing its operational readiness for interlined service on the 1 and 2 light rail lines. The test will incorporate 12 non-revenue trains integrated with revenue-service trains, which currently operate at 8-minute intervals during peak hours. Each non-revenue train will pause for 20 seconds at stations without opening doors, thus preventing any passenger boarding. While no major service disruptions are expected, some real-time information features may be temporarily disabled as the system adjusts to the increased train frequency. This testing phase is crucial for enhancing transit efficiency and preparing for future service expansions.

Additionally, a language line is available for translation assistance at 800-823-9230, ensuring accessibility for non-English speakers. The successful implementation of this test could significantly improve transit times for commuters in the Seattle area. Sound Transit emphasizes its commitment to providing reliable and efficient public transportation options in the region.
