Joe Scordino was honored as the 2025 Citizen of the Year by the Edmonds Chamber during the “Morning Buzz” event on June 11, 2025, for his extensive work in protecting local waterways and salmon populations. For over ten years, Scordino has led initiatives such as the Stream Team and Students Saving Salmon, dedicating thousands of volunteer hours to environmental preservation. Former City Councilmember Dave Teitzel, who nominated Scordino, emphasized his selfless commitment to the community and the environment. Scordino, acknowledging the support from his wife Nancy and local volunteers, expressed that the real reward comes from engaging youth in environmental efforts. The Citizen of the Year award, started by the Kiwanis Club in 1994, has a history of recognizing impactful individuals and organizations in Edmonds.

This year, Scordino will also serve as the Grand Marshal in the 4th of July parade, combining both honors into one. The event highlighted the importance of community involvement in environmental initiatives, fostering a culture of awareness and appreciation for local resources. Scordino's contributions continue to inspire residents to actively participate in preserving Edmonds’ natural beauty.
