Executive director search, summer activities focus of Monday Port Commission meeting
Port Commissioners are preparing to vote on June 24 to post a job description for a new executive director following Angela Harris's resignation in early May. Acting Executive Director Brandon Baker has temporarily filled the role, and discussions about the qualifications for the position have sparked debate among commissioners. Commissioner Jay Grant questioned whether five years of upper management experience is sufficient for a $200,000 job, prompting a detailed discussion on desired qualifications. The meeting also unveiled the Port's summer music schedule, launching with a concert featuring the Edmonds-Woodway Jazz Combo on June 18, and preparations for the FIFA World Cup in 2026, which could draw up to one million visitors to the region. Additionally, a government affairs contract will be reviewed in July, and the commission received a presentation on Washington State’s Open Public Meetings Act.
The commissioners expressed a collective desire to provide clear job specifics and showcase upcoming Port projects in the job announcement. The next commission meeting is scheduled for 10 a. m. on June 24, where the resolution to approve the job posting and delegation of authority will be discussed.
