June 14 Lynnwood Rotary derby race for children with disabilities

Lynnwood Rotary Club will host its eighth annual Challenge Series Derby Car Race on June 14 from 9 a. m. to noon at Lynnwood Elementary School. The event focuses on children with disabilities, ages 5 and older, allowing them to connect with peers in a competitive yet inclusive environment. Each child will race with a trained co-driver in a specially designed two-person derby car.

Families can participate in activities like face painting and enjoy lunch from Chick-fil-A while watching the race. The event is free and open to the public, promoting inclusion and support for youth with developmental disabilities. Local sponsors include the City of Lynnwood and Edmonds School District, enhancing community engagement. The derby cars were created by advocate Leo Finnegan, inspired by his son with developmental disabilities. Webbly from the Everett AquaSox will also attend to cheer on the racers.
