SR 99 tunnel to close in both directions in Seattle for maintenance starting June 6

The State Route 99 tunnel in Seattle will close in both directions for maintenance from 10 p. m. on June 6 to 6 a. m. on June 7.

The Washington State Department of Transportation will start closing northbound and southbound lanes at 8:30 p. m. , with key on-ramps shutting down at 9 p. m. Drivers heading south must take the Harrison Street off-ramp, while northbound travelers should exit at Alaskan Way.

Maintenance crews will conduct fire suppression testing, clean drains, and fix lighting issues during the closure. Travelers through downtown Seattle are advised to seek alternate routes. This maintenance is crucial for ensuring the tunnel's safety and operational integrity. The closure reflects ongoing efforts by WSDOT to maintain infrastructure.
