Beloved Edmonds garbage man celebrating 48 years with Sound Disposal

Gene Nicholson, who started his career at Sound Disposal a day after graduating high school in June 1977, is celebrating 48 years with the company. He continues to drive garbage trucks around Edmonds, despite the physical toll the job has taken on his body, including a recent rotator cuff surgery. Many community members have expressed their appreciation for Nicholson, sending him cards and well wishes during his recovery. He has become a familiar figure in Edmonds, often seen with his dog and engaging with children along his route. Nicholson has built lasting relationships with residents, sharing treats and stories that resonate with the community.

His commitment to his job has made him a beloved local personality. As he approaches his 50th anniversary, he humorously mentioned that he might consider celebrating with a cake. For now, however, he remains focused on his work, with no thoughts of retirement.
