School board celebrates Lynnwood and Mountlake Terrace students

On May 27, the Edmonds School Board celebrated notable achievements by students from Lynnwood and Mountlake Terrace. Mountlake Terrace High School journalism students earned the First Amendment Press Freedom Award for the 12th consecutive year, with advisor Vince DeMiero and co-editor Evan Kerani representing them. Lynnwood High's Royal Robotics and Mountlake Terrace's Chill Out Robotics teams showcased their skills at the 2025 FIRST National Championship, with Royal Robotics winning both the Industrial Design Award and the Gracious Professionalism Award. Chill Out Robotics secured two national-level awards, enhancing the district's reputation in STEM activities. Edmonds Elementary students proposed initiatives to boost the sense of belonging among peers from 77% to 90% by 2027.

Principal Heather Paddock aimed to increase math proficiency from 58. 7% to 75% by Spring 2027. The board also addressed grading practices and updated child abuse policies to align with district standards. Changes included redefining corporal punishment and clarifying definitions of abuse and neglect.
