Public input sought on possible ferry fare changes

Edmonds, WALocal News

The Washington State Transportation Commission is evaluating ferry fare changes to meet a $408. 8 million revenue target for the 2025-2027 budget cycle. Proposed adjustments include raising passenger and vehicle fares by an average of 2. 5% in October 2025 and again in October 2026. Additionally, the commission plans to extend multiride pass expiration from 90 to 120 days and increase summer surcharges for certain vehicle routes.

The public can participate in an online open house until June 9 to provide comments on these proposals. Feedback will inform the commission's proposal, which will be presented during a virtual meeting on June 17. A final decision on fare adjustments is anticipated in August, with new rates set to take effect by October 1, 2025. The commission aims to align fare structures more closely across different routes. Public engagement is crucial as fare changes impact local communities and ferry accessibility.
