Prom night at Scriber Lake HS Students treat themselves to face painting, cotton candy and music

Edmonds, WALocal News

Scriber Lake High School celebrated prom night on May 16, creating a festive atmosphere for its approximately 200 students, many of whom fall under low-income categories. The event featured activities such as face painting, a DJ, and a raffle with valuable prizes like a gaming setup. Washington Kids, a nonprofit focused on supporting families facing homelessness, organized the prom due to the lack of a parent-teacher organization at the school. Senior Max Whalen, who helped curate the DJ playlist, remarked, “You’re missing out” to those who didn’t attend. Fellow senior Rachel Pepera noted her excitement for the event, which coincided with her birthday.

Donations for the prom have been significant, with many students receiving dresses and accessories through a clothes drive. This year marked the seventh consecutive year the nonprofit hosted the prom, underscoring its commitment to the community. The event not only provided a memorable night for students but also highlighted the importance of support for low-income families in the area.
