EWHS student serves as state legislative page during 2025 session

Edmonds-Woodway High School sophomore Sahana Rattan served as a legislative page in the Washington State House from April 14-18, sponsored by Rep. Shelley Kloba. She learned about the legislative process and aims to join the International Baccalaureate program next year. Rattan enjoyed networking with peers from across Washington and gaining insights on global issues from guest speakers, including Governor Ferguson. Her question regarding dual credit programs was selected for a Teach With TVW segment, highlighting her engagement in educational policy discussions.

During a mock committee hearing, Rattan's team proposed a bill to enhance school safety by mandating Columbine locks and increasing background checks, funded by a 7% gun tax. The bill passed with strong support, marking a significant moment in her legislative experience. Rattan's active participation reflects her dedication to addressing pressing issues in education and safety. This program not only enriched her understanding of state governance but also inspired her future aspirations in public service.
