The Washington State Scholastic Esports Association (WSSEA) hosted the 2025 Esports High School State Championships on Sunday at the Lynnwood Event Center, marking its inaugural event in Lynnwood. Over 160 students from 32 high schools across Washington participated, showcasing their skills in games like Rocket League, Valorant, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Teams competed in a series of elimination rounds, with final scores accessible on the WSSEA website. The event also featured representatives from college esports programs and gaming equipment suppliers, emphasizing the industry's growth.

This year’s championships reflect an increasing acceptance of esports as a legitimate competitive activity among high schools. The participation of local schools, including Edmonds-Woodway High School, demonstrates the regional impact of esports. Such events foster community engagement and provide students with opportunities for scholarships and career paths in gaming. The WSSEA aims to promote esports as a valuable educational tool and competitive sport in Washington State.
