Forget the drizzle High school musicians sizzle during annual Edmonds Jazz Connection

The annual Jazz Connection, held on May 17, 2025, in downtown Edmonds, showcased local high school jazz musicians despite rainy weather. Organized by the Rotary Club of Edmonds Daybreakers, the event featured performances from jazz bands and choirs at the Edmonds Center for the Arts and small combo improv jazz in the Edmonds Theater. This year, five graduating seniors were awarded $2,500 scholarships to aid their pursuit of higher education and career aspirations. The scholarship recipients included Angela Adams, Aiden Cavanaugh, Olivia Lacambra, Santiago Gonzales-Corza, and Alieya Por. The event not only highlighted the talent of student musicians but also underscored the commitment of their teachers and instructors.

Throughout the day, photographers documented a variety of performances, capturing the vibrant atmosphere of the event. Additional photo galleries showcasing big bands and combos are expected to be released shortly. Jazz Connection has become a key annual event, fostering community support for local young talent.

The ceremony featured speeches reflecting on the tragic events and the heroism displayed by first responders, including remarks from retired firefighter Dave Erickson and Edmonds Mayor Mike Rosen. The memorial park includes a steel beam from the World Trade Center and honors the nearly 3,000 lives lost that day.
