Toll rates on SR 99 tunnel set to increase July 1

Edmonds, WALocal News

The Washington State Transportation Commission approved a 3% toll increase for the State Route 99 tunnel in Seattle, effective July 1. The new toll rates will see increases of 5 cents during off-peak and morning hours and 10 cents during evening peak hours. These tolls are crucial for paying off construction debt, as well as covering operations and maintenance costs for the tunnel. The commission adopted a plan in 2018 that includes a scheduled 3% toll hike every three years to ensure financial sustainability. The last adjustment took place on July 1, 2022.

As traffic patterns evolve, varying toll rates help manage congestion on the SR 99 corridor effectively. The commission emphasizes that toll revenue is vital for maintaining the tunnel's operational needs. For more details on the new toll rates, visit the commission’s website.
