WA state fire marshal offers fire sprinkler safety tips

Edmonds, WALocal News

During Home Fire Sprinkler Week, the Washington State Fire Marshal’s Office stresses the critical role of residential sprinklers in fire safety. House fires can escalate to life-threatening levels in less than two minutes, particularly in modern homes with lightweight materials. Fire sprinklers respond quickly, activating only where needed, which can save lives and property by controlling fires until firefighters arrive. Communities lacking sprinklers face greater risks, including increased firefighter danger and environmental impact due to larger fires. The cost of installing fire sprinklers is relatively low, averaging $1.

35 per square foot in new construction, and many insurance companies offer discounts for homes equipped with sprinklers. Sprinklers are discreet, low-maintenance, and independent from smoke alarms, making them easy to integrate into homes. Residents are encouraged to protect their most valued possessions by investing in fire sprinkler systems. More information on home and community fire safety is available at NFPA. org.
