As the executive director of the American Red Cross of Northwest Washington, he brings extensive experience in emergency management and community collaboration. Newman underscored the urgent need to enhance the city’s emergency preparedness, stating that public safety encompasses equipping first responders and preventing crises. The Position 3 seat is currently occupied by Neil Tibbott, who will not seek reelection, opening the field for new candidates. Other contenders include local business owner Erika Barnett and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility Commissioner Joseph Ademofe.

Newman holds a Bachelor of Science in Policy Analysis and Management from Cornell University and a master’s from the University of Cambridge. He envisions an Edmonds that works for everyone—safe, vibrant, and resilient. His candidacy reflects a commitment to community collaboration and effective policy implementation.
