Prep boys soccer E-W downs Mount Vernon to advance in District tourney

The Edmonds-Woodway Warriors triumphed over the Mount Vernon Bulldogs with a 3-1 scoreline in the District 1 3A Boys Soccer Tournament quarterfinal on Saturday. Goals from seniors Thomas Robles, Alex Plumis, and Jesus Ortiz Suarez helped the Warriors secure their spot in the semifinals. Robles opened the scoring in the 35th minute, assisted by Plumis, before Plumis scored with a header off a corner kick in the 63rd minute. Suarez added a third goal shortly after, assisted by David Salgado. Mount Vernon managed to score a consolation goal through Ernesto Zuniga's penalty kick in the 79th minute.

The Warriors outshot the Bulldogs 15-9, demonstrating their offensive prowess. Coach Jason Hanson noted that a win in their next match against Shorewood would take them to the state tournament. The Warriors are currently enjoying a four-game winning streak and aim to secure a fourth consecutive trip to the WIAA 3A state tournament.
