Mountlake Terrace HS Jazz 1 performs at Essentially Ellington

Mountlake Terrace High School Jazz 1 performed at the 2025 Essentially Ellington Jazz Festival in New York, presenting a set entirely composed of Duke Ellington songs. They opened with "Happy Go Lucky Local," transitioned to "What Am I Here For," and concluded with "Kinda Dukish/Rockin’ in Rhythm. " Band Director Darin Faul acknowledged the unprecedented community support, saying, "We feel that, and we really appreciate all of you for that. It matters! " Although the band did not advance to the semifinals, they demonstrated exceptional musicianship in a competitive environment.

Brett Holt from the MTHS Music Boosters recognized the significance of their performance alongside global high school jazz talent. The festival also featured performances from other Washington bands, underscoring the state's commitment to jazz education.
