Prep baseball Mavs fall to top-seeded Bulldogs in District tourney

Edmonds, WALocal News

The Meadowdale Mavericks entered the District 1 3A Baseball Tournament as the no. 12 seed after a surprising turnaround from a 3-12 start. They achieved five consecutive wins to close the regular season and secured two victories in the tournament before facing top-seeded Mount Vernon. Despite their eventual loss of 6-3, Coach Darren Watkins expressed pride in his team's performance against a strong opponent. Mount Vernon, boasting an 18-3 record, is considered a favorite for the state title, but Meadowdale gave them a tough match.

The Mavericks scored a run in the seventh inning, but it fell short of closing the gap. With an overall record of 10-13, Meadowdale seeks redemption in their next game against Shorewood on May 13. This matchup will be critical as it determines their continuation in the tournament. Watkins emphasized his team's perseverance, stating they never gave up even during their challenging start.
