Edmonds council to hold public hearing on design review code update May 13

Edmonds, WALocal News

The Edmonds City Council will hold a public hearing on updates to the design review code on May 13, as required by state legislation HB 1293. This legislation aims to streamline local design review processes and reduce permitting delays by enforcing clear and objective standards for building exteriors. Senior Planner Brad Shipley shared that the Planning Board recommends the council adopt the updated code as part of the ongoing 2025 Development Code Update. The council will also consider a resolution to change the public hearing date on landmark tree regulations and discuss potential updates to business license fees. During a recent retreat, council members indicated a desire to explore revenue opportunities to address a budget shortfall, which may be discussed at the meeting.

The public hearing will take place in the council chambers at the Public Safety Complex and will be streamed live. Community members can join virtually via Zoom or listen by phone. These updates reflect the city’s commitment to improving local governance and planning processes.
