Prep boys soccer Royals surprise Snohomish to advance in District tourney

Edmonds, WASports

The Lynnwood Royals advanced in the District 1 3A Boys Soccer Tournament by defeating the Snohomish Panthers 1-0, with a standout goal from senior co-captain Kai Ahumada. This victory continues their late-season momentum, marking their third win in just six days after previously struggling early in the season. Coach Pablo Mummey attributes their success to improved teamwork, stating that the squad is finally "starting to click. " Ahumada's goal came from a well-rehearsed corner kick play, which he executed perfectly to score in the 34th minute. The match was tightly contested, with both teams managing only eight shots, highlighting the physical nature of the game.

Senior co-captain Alexis Villasenor played a pivotal role in midfield before suffering an injury late in the match. The Royals will now face the top-seeded Monroe Bearcats in the next round. Mummey expressed hope for Villasenor's recovery following the match.
