Salons brings residents together in support of Edmonds Food Bank

Edmonds, WALocal News

The Edmonds Food Bank's “Thrive Together” campaign committee revitalized salon gatherings on April 24 to discuss food insecurity's impact on the community. Approximately 28 residents met to share insights about the challenges posed by recent government cutbacks affecting food assistance programs. Food Bank Director Casey Davis underscored the importance of addressing underlying issues beyond food scarcity. The food bank plans to build a new facility that will feature enhanced food storage, a commercial kitchen, and space for various social services. Local suppliers, including Cottage Bakery and PCC Markets, showcased their contributions to the food bank's operations, which currently serve around 1,400 households weekly.

This initiative aims to prevent food waste by allowing local establishments to donate surplus food for preparation. Participants expressed enthusiasm for the salon format, with many planning to host similar events to foster community involvement. The Thrive Together committee offers logistical support for residents interested in hosting their own salons to discuss food insecurity.
