Joe Scordino, the environmental conscience of Edmonds, is Edmonds Citizen of the Year
Joe Scordino has earned the title of Edmonds Citizen of the Year from the Edmonds Kiwanis Club for his tireless efforts in advocating for the city's salmon-bearing streams and wetlands. Kiwanis member Juliana Van Buskirk noted Scordino's unique blend of energy and dedication in his selection for the honor. This year, he will also take on the role of Grand Marshal in the 4th of July parade, merging two significant recognitions. The Citizen of the Year program, initiated in 1994, has celebrated numerous individuals and organizations, including past winners such as city officials and community groups. Scordino, a retired fisheries biologist, has spent decades working to protect local salmon habitats and educate the community about environmental stewardship.
He expressed his surprise and gratitude upon receiving the award, stating it "knocked me over. " Born in Sicily and raised in California, Scordino moved to Edmonds in 1979 and quickly fell in love with the community. His ongoing commitment to environmental advocacy has made him a respected figure in Edmonds.
