Young changemakers support Edmonds Food Bank in the spirit of GiveBIG

Edmonds, WALocal News

As the GiveBIG campaign launches, the Edmonds Food Bank highlights the philanthropic efforts of local youth. Young residents have taken initiatives to support the food bank, such as Cam, who turned his block party into a fundraiser, raising funds through a lemonade stand. His mother, Lisa, noted that their experience inspired them to volunteer regularly at the food bank. Three friends from Westgate collected over 100 grocery bags through a door-to-door campaign, showcasing the effectiveness of community engagement. The Girl Scouts created birthday boxes filled with cake mix and decorations for children served by the food bank, ensuring that every child feels celebrated.

“It wouldn’t be fair if a kid couldn’t have cake and decorations on their birthday,” said Elliette Byrum. The food bank emphasizes that generosity knows no age and invites the community to join in supporting its mission. Early giving is open now, with the main event scheduled for May 6-7.
