County Council Corner Offering thanks to volunteers at cold weather shelters
Snohomish County acknowledged the invaluable contributions of volunteers from its Cold Weather Shelters during a recent council meeting. The shelters operated 34 out of 35 nights during a severe cold stretch from January 11 to February 14, providing refuge for over 250 individuals on the coldest nights. Managed by local organizations, these shelters played a crucial role in offering safety and warmth to the homeless during the harsh winter. Councilmember Nate Nehring praised the selfless dedication of the volunteers, highlighting the spirit of community service evident throughout the county. The county also provided essential funding for staffing and supplies, ensuring that the shelters were prepared to meet the growing demand.
In total, the Marysville shelter alone offered 1,352 beds and nearly 1,800 volunteer hours last winter. This recognition not only honors the volunteers but also reinforces the community's commitment to supporting its vulnerable members. The Cold Weather Shelters exemplify the spirit of caring and resilience within Snohomish County.
