Teen Talk Student-led classes invite youth to improve their financial literacy

Edmonds, WALocal News

Youth Finance University (YFU) offers free online financial literacy classes for children aged 5-13 in Snohomish County, led by dedicated high school students. The program, started by three friends from Newport High School, focuses on essential financial topics like budgeting, credit, and investing. YFU's mission is to empower young minds with practical financial skills that are often missing from traditional K-12 education. A notable success includes a third grader who saved for her first major purchase, demonstrating the program's impact on student behavior. YFU is committed to expanding its reach and developing a sustainability plan to ensure long-term success.

The team is also working on partnerships with schools and nonprofits to enhance their impact. By training younger student leaders, YFU aims to create a broader base for financial education. The initiative addresses systemic gaps in financial literacy, especially for underserved communities.
