Prep softball After 8-3 loss to Shorewood, coach says young Mavs still finding their footing

Edmonds, WASports

The Meadowdale Mavericks faced a tough 8-3 defeat against the Shorewood Stormrays in a recent Wesco League game, highlighting the challenges of a youthful roster. Head coach Julia Reuble, in her first year, must navigate a team with only three seniors and five freshmen, emphasizing patience and learning from tough losses. The Stormrays' offense was led by Emma Kellum, who went 3-for-4, including a two-run homer, while the Mavericks struggled with fielding errors that allowed Shorewood to advance runners. Despite these setbacks, Reuble is optimistic about her team's potential, noting improvements in various areas. Freshman Samantha Martens shined with a three-run homer that temporarily closed the gap to 4-3, demonstrating the Mavericks' fighting spirit.

However, the Stormrays quickly responded, scoring additional runs to secure the victory. Reuble, a former Mavericks player and state champion, is still assessing her squad's capabilities this season. With a current record of 4-6, she remains focused on developing her team's skills and confidence.
