South County Fire outreach manager named national Fire Life Safety Educator of the Year
Shawneri Guzman, the Community Outreach Manager for South County Fire, has been named the NFPA Fire and Life Safety Educator of the Year, a distinguished honor celebrating her commitment to community safety. Fire Chief Bob Eastman commended Guzman for her innovative approach and advocacy, noting her pivotal role in community risk reduction efforts in Snohomish County. With a remarkable 25-year career in life safety education, she coordinates Safe Kids Snohomish County and leads various safety initiatives. Guzman's dedication extends to teaching courses on topics such as aging in place, disaster preparedness, and child safety. In her own words, she sees supporting the community through education as a calling and feels a strong responsibility to protect and educate others.
Recognized previously as the 2021 Washington Public Fire Educator of the Year, she has consistently demonstrated excellence in her field. Both Guzman and South County Fire received a $1,000 stipend in recognition of their contributions. She will be formally honored at the NFPA Conference and Expo in June, underscoring the importance of effective outreach in enhancing public safety.
