WSDOT invites public to online open house and survey to help improve rail, starts April 15

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is set to update its State Rail Plan, driven by an expected surge in the state's population and the corresponding need for sustainable transportation solutions. Public feedback is crucial, as WSDOT aims to create a rail system that meets the needs of communities while also addressing environmental concerns. Jason Biggs, director of WSDOT's Rail, Freight and Ports Division, emphasized the importance of rail in moving people and goods efficiently while minimizing congestion and emissions. The online open house, accessible from April 15 to June 24, allows residents to explore background materials and complete a survey on their rail usage and future preferences. WSDOT is also committed to inclusivity, providing resources in multiple languages and offering free internet access at various hotspots statewide.

In addition to the open house, several interactive webinars will be held in May and June, offering community members opportunities to engage directly with rail experts. This comprehensive outreach effort underscores WSDOT's dedication to fostering a rail system that supports economic growth and environmental sustainability. Feedback collected will inform the plan, which is expected to be submitted to state and federal leaders in early 2026.
