Karen Miller, a beloved member of the Mountlake Terrace community, passed away unexpectedly on April 4, 2025, at the age of 92. Born in Jordan, MN, on January 4, 1933, she moved to Seattle and married Jim Miller, raising six children together. Her life was marked by active public service, including significant contributions to girls' athletics and education, where she advocated for better opportunities within the Edmonds School District. Karen served on the Terrace Library Board and was the first woman on the Terrace Planning Commission, demonstrating her commitment to community growth. In 1992, she was appointed to the Snohomish County Council and later received the Maybell Chapman Award for her impactful work.

She also championed affordable housing initiatives during her long tenure with the state Housing Finance Commission, where she was appointed chairwoman by Governor Locke in 1999. Karen's passion for family was evident in her love for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and she was a dedicated sports fan throughout her family's athletic endeavors. Her legacy is characterized by a deep commitment to community service, advocacy, and family values.
