This nonprofits got you covered if your home needs grab bars, handrails

Edmonds, WALocal News

The Older Adult Home Modification Program (OAHMP) has been introduced by Homage Senior Services, offering free home modifications to seniors in Snohomish County. This program is designed to aid older adults in living independently by providing installations such as grab bars, handrails, and ADA-compliant toilets. To qualify, participants must be 62 or older, reside in the county, and meet specific income criteria, ensuring that those in most need can benefit. An in-home assessment by a licensed occupational therapist identifies individual safety and accessibility needs, paving the way for tailored modifications. Technicians then carry out the approved changes, enhancing the home environment for seniors.

The initiative is funded by the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, underscoring its importance in community welfare. Cheryl Cadden, a senior manager at Homage, emphasizes the program's goal: enabling older adults to "age in place" rather than move to assisted-care facilities. For more information, interested individuals can call 425-290-1270 or visit the program's website.
