SR 99 tunnel to close in both directions night of April 4 in Seattle for maintenance

Edmonds, WALocal News

The State Route 99 tunnel in Seattle will be entirely closed in both directions from 10 p. m. on April 4 until 6 a. m. on April 5 for crucial maintenance work.

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) maintenance crews are set to begin closing lanes at 8:30 p. m. , ensuring the tunnel is fully shut by 10 p. m. This closure necessitates that southbound drivers take the Harrison Street off-ramp, while northbound drivers must exit at Alaskan Way to avoid delays.

Additionally, on-ramps at Sixth Avenue and Royal Brougham Way will close at 9 p. m. Crews will undertake several essential tasks during this period, including fire suppression testing, cleaning and marking drains, and repairing lights to enhance safety. As a result, travelers in downtown Seattle on that Friday night should consider alternative routes to circumvent potential traffic congestion. The WSDOT mobile app and the real-time travel map will provide up-to-date traffic information to assist commuters.

This maintenance is crucial for ensuring the safety and reliability of the tunnel infrastructure.
