Edmonds School District sponsors Avanzando event, aimed at empowering HispanicLatino students
The Edmonds School District's recent Avanzando event brought together over 220 Hispanic/Latino middle school students at Edmonds College, focusing on empowerment through education. This initiative aimed to build confidence, foster connections, and raise awareness about college and career opportunities. High school mentors from Latino Student Unions provided invaluable support to the younger students, alongside district counselors and career specialists. Guest speaker Marison Bejarano, director of health & wellness at the Latino Educational Training Institute, encouraged students to embrace their potential and actively plan for their futures. Participants also had the opportunity to explore the Edmonds College campus through guided tours, allowing them to envision their next steps in education.
The event not only highlighted the importance of mentorship but also the district's commitment to supporting Hispanic/Latino youth. By focusing on community engagement and educational awareness, the district aims to empower the next generation. This initiative is a testament to the positive impact of fostering an inclusive educational environment.
