City Announces Walkable Main Street for 2021

Edmonds, WALocal News

The City of Edmonds is thrilled to announce the return of its beloved Walkable Main Street program for the summer of 2021, running from June 19th to September 5th. This initiative will close Main Street to vehicles on weekends, creating a pedestrian-friendly environment for residents and visitors alike. Mayor Mike Nelson expressed enthusiasm about the program, noting its positive impact on local businesses and community spirit. The city gathered substantial public feedback through surveys and meetings, which has informed enhancements for this year’s event. Improvements include more public parking with clearer signage, the addition of ADA parking, and increased seating areas along Main Street.

The city is also planning a promotional campaign for local retailers and restaurants to boost foot traffic and encourage visitors to shop and dine. This initiative aims to not only promote economic activity but also to enhance the charm and accessibility of downtown Edmonds. With a focus on safety and community engagement, Walkable Main Street 2021 promises to be a significant highlight of the summer.
