Rain Garden TourInformation October 9th - City of Edmonds, WA

Edmonds, WALocal News

The City of Edmonds invites residents to join a Rain Garden Tour on October 9th, from 9:30 to 11:30 a. m. , aimed at promoting sustainable landscaping practices. This event is particularly relevant as the region faces increasing challenges with stormwater runoff, which accounts for a staggering 75% of pollution in the Puget Sound. By installing rain gardens, homeowners can significantly reduce the flow of harmful pollutants from their properties.

During the tour, participants will explore various residential rain gardens along Third Avenue, guided by the principles outlined in the Rain Garden Handbook for Western Washington. Each attendee will receive a copy of the handbook, along with a resource list that includes a map of local rain gardens for further exploration. The City of Edmonds has been proactive in this initiative since 2015, offering valuable resources to residents seeking to contribute to environmental health. The event is free, but RSVPs are mandatory due to limited group sizes, and participants must follow COVID-19 safety protocols. This hands-on experience not only educates but also fosters community involvement in environmental stewardship.
