Edmonds Civic Park - Artist Selection Process

Edmonds, WALocal News

The Edmonds Civic Park project is set to enhance community engagement through the integration of public art, with a Public Hearing scheduled for October 19, 2021. During this meeting, community members will have the opportunity to provide input on the selected artist, Clark Wiegman, who has a strong track record in collaborative place-making projects. The artwork will be strategically positioned at the park plaza entry, designed by Walker Macy, emphasizing the importance of public art in urban spaces. The artist selection process began in 2020 but faced delays due to the pandemic; however, five finalists were interviewed in September 2021. With a budget of $90,000 allocated for this initiative, the project aims to foster community involvement throughout the design development phase.

Following artist selection, Wiegman will work alongside park designers and community members to create concepts for the artwork, with a public meeting scheduled for winter 2022. The final design will be presented for approval at another Public Hearing in spring 2022. This initiative not only enriches the park's aesthetic but also strengthens community ties through shared artistic experiences.
