Mural Celebrates Edmonds Lunar New Year Event

Edmonds, WALocal News

Caitlin Chung, an Edmonds-Woodway Senior, has unveiled a striking mural celebrating the Lunar New Year, located on the fence of the Frances Anderson Center playfield. This initiative is part of the Edmonds Diversity Commission’s Lunar New Year event, which took place on January 29th. The mural, aptly named “The Start of a Lunar New Year Tradition,” was developed with the assistance of local artist Andy Eccleshall, known for his contributions to the city's public art scene. Chung's project highlights the importance of cultural diversity within the community, reinforcing Edmonds’ commitment to inclusivity. She acknowledged the support of various individuals, including family and friends, who helped transform two plain sheets of plywood into a vibrant piece of art in just a few days.

The mural serves as a visual representation of the Lunar New Year festivities, fostering community engagement and pride. It will remain on display until mid-March, allowing the public to enjoy and reflect on its cultural significance. This project exemplifies how art can unite communities and celebrate shared traditions.
