Edmonds, WALocal News

The City of Edmonds is set to host its Annual Memorial Day Observance at the Edmonds Memorial Cemetery on May 29, 2023, starting at 11 AM. This significant event honors the sacrifices of veterans, with Retired Marine Corporal Robert Oliverez Jr. as the keynote speaker, representing the Military Order of the Purple Heart. The observance will take place rain or shine and is expected to last about one hour, providing a solemn atmosphere for reflection and remembrance. Limited seating will be available, so guests are encouraged to bring their own chairs for comfort.

In a heartfelt gesture, all veterans' graves will be adorned with white crosses and miniature U. S. flags, symbolizing their service to the nation. The cemetery, which holds historical significance as it was placed on the Washington State Register of Historic Places in 1972, invites visitors to explore its grounds and take self-guided tours using available walking maps. Street parking is accessible, but parking within the cemetery is reserved for those with ADA permits.

This observance not only honors the fallen but also fosters community engagement and remembrance.
