Free Music Performance at Mikas Playground

Edmonds, WALocal News

The City of Edmonds, Washington, will host a unique free music performance at Mika’s Playground on September 23, 2023, at 2:30 PM. This event is part of a musical commission by the Edmonds Arts Commission and features an original composition titled "Mika’s Song" by award-winning composer Ed Hartman. Hartman will perform on a new installation of musical chimes, specifically tubular bells, located in the playground area of Edmonds Civic Playfields Park. The composer describes musical installations as valuable opportunities for people to engage with music in welcoming spaces. He hopes his piece will inspire creativity, positivity, and open-mindedness within the community.

Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets or chairs to sit on the grass while enjoying this inclusive event. Hartman will also demonstrate the instrument and engage the audience, making it a participatory experience. This initiative highlights the importance of community arts and promotes cultural engagement among residents and visitors alike.
